Back Stitch


A good stitch for outlining an area or motif. It is a basic embroidery stitch. For a smooth result try to keep each stitch the same length. Short stitch lengths allow Back stitch to curve and curl smoothly.

Back Stitch 1
1) Bring your needle up through the fabric.

Back Stitch 2
2) Push your needle down through the fabric a stitch length above your starting point. * The size of the stitch length is entirely up to you.

Back Stitch 3
3) You will now have one stitch.

Back Stitch 4
4) Bring your needle up through the fabric a stitch length below your starting stitch.   Try to make your stitch lengths as even as possible.

Back Stitch 5
5) Push your needle down through the fabric exactly at the end of the last stitch.

Back Stitch 6
6) You now have two stitches.

Back Stitch 7
7) Continue repeating instructions 4 and 5.
